THE DIGITAL WARRIORS

"Digital Warriors: Iraq Through Soldiers' Eyes" is a photographic project of historical significance, which provides a unique opportunity for the men and women of the armed forces to honestly and directly communicate their visual experiences of the war in Iraq. By sharing their photographs, soldiers have a chance to visually portray a world that very few Americans have an opportunity to see, but which affects us all.

Not since the Civil War, when soldiers first began photographing for personal use, has there been an opportunity to participate in a project of this magnitude and importance. For the first time in war, soldiers with digital cameras have the ability to document life in a war zone and almost instantaneously publish the results for all to see on the Internet, just as photojournalists do on a daily basis around the world.

Now you can show the folks at home a reality that even photojournalists are unable to access. The "Digital Warriors" web site is now collecting photographs from people like you. With your support these images will be published in a book that will tell the many powerful stories of the past four-years as seen through the eyes of soldiers serving in Iraq. Anyone who is serving or has served in Iraq should consider submitting their images. There is no limit to the number of photos you can submit.

Kim Newton, who has more than twenty-six years of experience as a photojournalist, senior photo editor and educator heads the project. Visit kimnewton.com for more information.
